Feast of St. Clair

Is it just me or did our summer cruise on down the road. Wow, it seemed to pass so quickly this year. I understand everyone is busy but common on … it seemed it just cruised on by.

In saying that, we have a number of activities we attend throughout summer in Port Huron. Yes, we were not hunting Pesky Foreclosures those days. So my sister, her son, Bonnie & I adventured to one of our favorites the Feast of St. Clair.

This year the weather was perfect, not to hot or definitely not raining. We got a chance to visit with those folks, sample some food & home made root beer with the coolest bottle. Oh, don't forget the demonstrations.

Why would you want to read about Port Huron’s activities when this is a real estate blog focusing on buying foreclosures in Port Huron & surrounding area. Good questions, its simply said, if your buying, selling & investing in the area, why not understand the history. Its great to know incase you have a person who wants to know something about the area which might sell that house just a bit faster. It never hurts to education your self on local history.

In 1790 the first permanent settlement was built on the banks of the Black River. Lumbering, furring and shipping were the foundation of the new settlement. Throughout the summer various reenactments give insight into the lives of early settlers.

The timeline below lists some of the important events which helped this settlement prosper into what is now called Port Huron.

1670 Father DeCasson and DeGallinee first recorded visit
1686 DeL'Hut built Fort St. Joseph under orders from Louis XV
1790 First permanent settlement along Black River
1813 Naval Battle between H.M.S. Nancy and Territorial Militia in St. Clair River
1814 U.S. Government builds Ft. Gratiot
1819 First steam propelled ship "Walk on the Water" sails past Port Huron
1821 First school in the area located at Ft. Gratiot
1829 Ft. Gratiot Lighthouse built; still in operation
1849 Port Huron incorporated as a village
1850 Port Huron a major station for the under ground Railroad
1854 Thomas Edison resides in the area
1859 First railroad into Port Huron: Grand Trunk
1866 Third electric powered streetcar in U.S. begins operation in Port Huron
1891 World's first electrified underwater international train tunnel between Port Huron and Sarnia
1925 First Lake Huron Mackinac Island Yacht Race
1938 Blue Water Bridge opens to traffic between Port Huron and Sarnia

As you can see from 1670 to now, much has chanced and its just getting better. With people like Billionary Acheon living and helping to expand Port Huron's water front. Improve the neighborhoods and future 600 unit condo's, Port Huron is growing.

What I love the most, outsiders to the area would say, not enough going on to invest in Port Huron Michigan. That is the funny one, yesterday, I had a private investor fly into St. Clair International Airport in his own plane. Bonnie & I pick him up and took him around looking at 20-50k profit foreclosures … he was impressed with the opportunities. But we did not spot there, we went on a tour of the now and future Port Huron.

As we adventured on a journey back to the air port, our new investor said he was very impressed with the Port Huron area and will be back to do more. He was going back to his home town that night and attending a party. Guess what, he was forming a new company and include some of his friends to invest, why you might ask, because we showed the vision were Port Huron is going!

This is Bob, signing off for now!
